On Thursday September 6th at Lincoln Center, Supima held their fifth annual design competition featuring students and recent Alumni from the likes of Pratt, Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art and Design and Fashion Institute of Technology. All participants were required to use Supima cotton fabrics in their five designs, and the winning designer would receive $10,000 towards their career.
The lights went dark and the show began. I instantly became overwhelmed with beautiful gowns and evening dresses, as the runway was filled with the most beautiful lavenders, pale yellows and deep blues. One designer stood out among the rest. Moving away from cool colors, Kate Wilkoff of Pratt had models coming out in gowns with geometric shapes and warmer hues. As the show came to a close, celebrity stylist and designer Rachel Zoe, the host and judge, said: "How amazing was that. I am very impressed.” And without hesitation, she announced the winner: Kate Wilkoff!
Her designs were truly beautiful and unique. What an honor for this young designer.
