Ashlee will be having a wedding! I can't believe these two are going to get married. I hope Jessica has given her some good advice. I would have waited and boost my career a bit more and enjoy the dating scene. Hollywood marriages are trendy so I guess this is the hip thing to do. I love Ashlee so I hope this will last forever!
The pop star and her alt-beau Pete Wentz are engaged, according to a statement posted Wednesday by the couple on the networking site FriendsorEnemies.com.
"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged," Simpson wrote.
"Thank you for all of your support and well wishes—it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us."
Joe Simpson, for one, was delighted to hear the news about his daughter's pending nuptials.
He told E! News he is "totally happy" and "so excited to have Pete as part of the family...We are blessed."
The Simpson family patriarch also confirmed exclusively to E! that Wentz asked him for his permission to propose to Ashlee.
"He doesn't look like it, but Pete is a very traditional guy, and he knows Joe is too," a source close to the couple said Wednesday. "He never would have asked her without Joe's permission."
